Members of the Oakey and district community enjoyed themselves visiting the Royal Toowoomba Show at Glenvale.

Seven out of 50 students from Seijo Gakuen High School in Tokyo, Japan who were staying in Oakey travelled to the Show with David Totenhofer on the community bus.

The students enjoyed the sights and sounds of a traditional Australian country show.

QCWA branch members from Goombungee served refreshments at the main pavilion to dozens of people throughout the day, including surprise guests Queensland’s Governor Jeanette Young and ABC Gardening Australia presenter Costa Georgiadis.

Meanwhile, showgirls from our district gave an excellent account of themselves, and made it hard for the judges to decide on an overall winner.

Brianna Barron (Cooyar Showgirl), Chloe Ferguson (Goombungee-Haden Showgirl), Laynae Okkonen (Oakey Show Ambassador) all presented well, however Oakey Showgirl Katie Reeves particularly impressed the audience with an address on the importance of shopping locally, to support local businesses.

Referring to Oakey she said: “It’s so easy to say I’ll go to Toowoomba - it’s only twenty minutes down the road, but it’s more important for people to shop locally and support their own town.”

Former  Brymaroo boy and the LNP’s Shadow Treasurer David Janetzki also attended with his family.
