Vedette Villas expansion begins

Clifton Community Health Services has reached the next stage in its journey to becoming a Community Housing Provider with the start on construction of ten new social homes, part of an expanded Vedette Villas.

The ten new social homes in Clifton are among 87 new homes in the Darling Downs to be delivered in partnership with community housing providers.

During the sod turning ceremony held on Tuesday, 9 September, CCHS Executive Director Amelia Simpkins said the project embodies not just a construction development for the Clifton community, but an investment into the lives of the people who need it most.

“These ten dwellings will not only provide roofs over heads, but will also give people the stability they need to focus on employment, education, health, and connection to community,” Ms Simpkins said.

CCHS Board Chair Andrew Douglas said the ten units are much needed, new homes for Clifton and surrounding communities.

“(They are) Homes for those in greatest need in our community,” Mr Douglas said.

“Homes for people who might not otherwise have access to the security and stability of a safe, functional, comfortable place to reside… a place to call home, a place to belong.

“Not only does today mark the commencement of those new homes, but it also marks a very tangible step in the ongoing development of Clifton Community Health Services.”

Vinnies Housing has started construction on 27 new social homes in Newtown, due for completion in late 2026.

Brisbane Housing Company also starts construction on 50 social and community homes in Toowoomba this month, due for completion mid-2027.

On the same day the sod turning was held in Clifton, Minister O’Connor opened 23 new social homes on Snell Street in Toowoomba City, delivered in a partnership between the Queensland Government and The Salvation Army.

“In just ten months of delivery, we’ve already got work under way on thousands of new social and community homes across Queensland, including 499 here in the Darling Downs,” Mr O’Connor said.

“These partnerships are part of our broader commitment to increasing access to social and community housing and reducing homelessness in this region.”
