Vet nurse a regional finalist for Queensland Training Awards
Tavanah McGee from Pittsworth Vet Surgery is a finalist in the Queensland Training Awards for Vocational Student of the Year in the Darling Downs South West region.
Trailblazing apprentices, teachers, trainers and employers are in the running to be recognised as the State’s top talent, representing the very best of vocational education and training in the region and showcasing the people and organisations helping build Queensland’s skilled workforce.
A total of 715 nominations was received for this year’s awards, and Tavanah is among 206 finalists across 10 categories in seven regions.
The Vocational Student of the Year award recognises outstanding achievement by a student who has recently completed or is due to complete a VET qualification in Queensland.
It was Tavanah’s deep love for animals that led her to pursue a career in veterinary nursing.
In March 2026, her dedication and hard work were recognised when she received the Academic Excellence Award at TAFE Queensland’s Toowoomba graduation.
Now thriving as a veterinary nurse, Tavanah has developed outstanding practical skills and a solid foundation of clinical knowledge.
Her story is one of resilience, shaped by a challenging childhood where animals provided safety.
Today, she brings that same care and compassion to her work at Pittsworth Vet Surgery, making a lasting impact on animals and their owners.
Minister for Finance, Trade, Employment and Training Ros Bates said the Queensland Training Awards celebrated the people driving Queensland forward through skills and training.
“For 65 years, these awards have highlighted standout performers in training whose dedication, innovation and leadership are helping shape Queensland’s future workforce,” Ms Bates said.
“Congratulations to all of our finalists and thank you to everyone helping build the Queensland of the future.”
Regional winners will progress to the Queensland Training Awards State Final in Brisbane on 19 September 2026.
