Watt a victory! Champions of the Christmas lights competition
On Tuesday evening, the winners of the annual ‘Light Up For Christmas’ competition were announced with a record number of entries this year that made our town, quite literally, shine bright.

For the more elaborate set-ups, it’s not as simple as chucking up a few lights and flipping a switch.
There’s a three step process involved: planning, shopping, and the most time consuming phase - assembling.
Each year, the Pittsworth District Alliance (PDA) organises the competition with sponsorship from Ros Scotney OAM and Gardens of the Downs.
There were certainly some outstanding efforts in Pittsworth, with 28 entries across all categories.
Last week, Ms Scotney received a list of the entries from the PDA and chauffeured the judges, Lyndall Madden and Gail Jinks, around to each display.
The Decorated House and Garden category, which had a record of 14 entries, was won by Taleisha Ridgway in Florence Street.
Second place went to Chloe and Lachlan Wilson in Hadley Street, and a Highly Commended to Tyson Moore in Daniel Street.
Ms Scotney said Taleisha was very close in placing in last year’s competition, and pulled off an impressive display for the win.
The winners of the Decorated Lit Up Tree were Brooke Docherty and Jake Magnusson in Margetts Street.
Many hours would have been spent on their ‘lit up’ tree but the result was a feast for the eyes!
Second place went to Carol and Antony McEwan in Short Street, and a Highly Commended to Janice and Fred Reed in Hill Street East.
It was a tough call for the judges in the Good Neighbours category with only two entrants.
First place went to three neighbours in Steele Street who put on a very colourful display with an abundance of inflatable characters including a gingerbread man, reindeer, Kombi van, dinosaur, Bluey, Bingo and Santa Claus.
Second place went to the Pearce and Thomson families in Hume Street.
Brooke Docherty and Jake Magnusson in Margetts Street also won the Novice Award for their first time effort.
Second place went to Cameron Bolton in Alexia Street and a Highly Commended to Chloe and Lachlan Wilson in Hadley Street.
There were two entries in the Business category, both following up with impressive displays again after last year’s effort.
The winner was Beauaraba Living (Weale Street) and second place went to Beauty and the Beard (Yandilla Street).
Ms Scotney, who has been involved in the competition for at least 20 years, said it pleased her greatly to see so many new families enter the competition this year.
If you’re planning to go out for an evening around town to see the Christmas lights, here’s a list of streets to help you on your way: Margetts, Short, Daniel, Hadley, Pioneer Way, Florence, Steele, Perham, Hill, Briggs, Weale, Hume, Alexia, Quarry and Hill Street East.
The winners were announced at ‘Christmas In Pittsworth’ on 9th December, and photos from this event will be published in next week’s edition.
