Wattles Under 13s join TJRL winners circle
The smiles said it all at Glenholme Oval on Saturday, with Wattles Juniors Under 13s recording their first win of the 2026 TJRL season in a hard-fought 18-14 victory over Brothers in near-freezing conditions.
Led by captain Liam “The Inflictor” Hoey, the young Warriors showed plenty of grit and determination.
An early try to Levi Crogan, converted brilliantly from the sideline by James Mason, gave Wattles the perfect start.
Mason crossed for a try of his own as the Warriors took a 12-6 lead into the half time break.
Brothers fought their way back into the contest, but Wattles refused to yield.
Wade Sutton crossed late to seal the 18-14 victory, sparking celebrations among players, coaches and supporters alike.
The improvement across the squad was evident, with the forward pack laying a strong platform through the middle.
Malakai Darlington proved a constant threat with the ball in hand, breaking the line on multiple occasions, while the team’s commitment to completing sets and defending strongly played a key role in the result.
Elsewhere, the Under 14s faced a tough outing, going down 38-0, while the Under 15s battled hard before falling 34-18.
Our unbeaten Under 16s continued their impressive season with a 36-24 victory, highlighted by a hat-trick from Nate Murdoch.
The Under 17s also maintained their perfect start to the year, snatching a thrilling two-point win in the dying minutes to remain undefeated.
With several teams building momentum and confidence each week, the future continues to look bright for the green and gold.
