Weekend of memories at wet Woolshed
Visitors old and new came to the Jondaryan Woolshed recently for a weekend which focussed on the history of the Woolshed Complex.
John Matthews gave a wool-classing tutorial, while familiar face David Seeto gave a presentation on the early pioneers and regular volunteer John Eggleston talked about the history of the Woolshed itself.
Friends of the Woolshed President Shelley Burns said that the weather had not deterred volunteers from coming out.
“It was unfortunate the weather dampened the visitor numbers, but the great thing was the volunteers,” she said.
“Considering the weather it was a great weekend.”
It was the second appearance at the Woolshed of the Craft Cottage, a new initiative started by volunteers from Oakey Information Centre.
“Big shout out to the Craft Ladies,“ Ms Burns said.
“We’re looking forward to developing our relationship with them.
“The presentation of the Craft Cottage was nothing short of spectacular.
“We had a new shearer from Wyreema, Tom Sharpe did a great job demonstrating his skill.
“We also had Harkovette there leading the music, and Toowoomba Live Steamers opened up the mini-rail.
“Nick Geraghty drove his mini-steam engine around despite the weather.”
Working dog demonstrations were led by Shelley Burns herself with Kerry Lovell.
Attention at the Woolshed now turns to the Easter Family Camping Weekend, which has been a traditional event.
This will be followed later in the year by a Heavy Horses Festival, Spring and Winter events.
“Our focus is now on our Easter Camping event,” Ms Burns said.
“We’ve got big plans for that event.
“Camping spots are still available.
