Wildcats in good position for finals

The Pittsworth Wildcats managed to dodge the patchy rainfall on Saturday to compete in Round 8 of the netball competition at Nell E. Robinson Park. They’re currently in good position for a chance to be in the finals in a few weeks’ time.

Set Blue Cubs

We faced off against Glennie, showcasing our skills in the shooting circle, working hard, intercepting and defending their players. We worked together, displaying the skills we’ve been working on at training. Aimee and I are beyond proud of our Cubs! The player of the match was Abi Zeller.

- Sally Gordon & Aimee King

11C Lions

This week the Lions were up against the Saints Shooting Stars. The Lions started off in the first quarter with a tie of three goals each. In the second quarter we started to make more headway and climbed to a two point lead. We continued to make good decisions on the court and came out with an 18 points to 5 win. Our Lions continued to build their skills with chest passes and creating space down the court. The player of the match was Khalessi Pirie.

- Kass Clark & Catherine Folker

11A Pumas

The Pumas played against Saints Neptune, exhibiting their skills of creating space in the goal circle, driving forward to the ball, and performing excellently in defence. While they unfortunately went down 6-28, the girls worked hard as a team to make each play difficult for the other team, deterring many shots and denying forward movement. Among playing other positions, Reva, Willow, and Sophia particularly exceeded in the goal circle, supported by precise passing from mid court players Lacey, Lizzie, Ella J, and Hayley. All team members demonstrated versatility and perseverance across the court in a coordinated display of teamwork and relentless defence. Player of the match was Lizzie.

- Ava Schultz & Keira Quinn

12C Leopards

The Leopards faced off against Phoenix and pulled off another win. The girls had a very close first half, only leading by one point at half-time but they turned up the heat and won by six points by the final whistle! We had all eight of our players which was fantastic to see all the girls working together and having a strong team spirit. Each of the Leopards played hard and used each of their individual skills to create some beautiful netball, with great defensive moves from the opposing circle which created turnovers and therefore set up the court for our attackers who were creating space up the court, and throwing some spectacular passes into our shooters. The player of the match was Millie Taylor.

13A Tigers

Missing our regular shooter Ari, the Tigers started off the pace. Down by seven at the half, we were building shooting opportunities but struggling for points. Third quarter saw Isla and Georgia create better ball movement. At the other end we were battling to halt Downlands’ effortless scoring until hard fought intercepts by Harper, and then Emma sparked a fight back. The final quarter saw a mighty lift in intensity. Our defence led the charge, with Lilly’s intercepts and turnovers taking their tall GA out of the game. Matilda and Emma capitalised on her pressure amassing nine turnovers. Tori and Felicity were tenacious. We won the final quarter 6-1 but sadly lost the game 16-22. The player of the match was Tori Klein.

14-16s Cadet H Lynx

With the rain subsiding, the game was able to go ahead, with the Lynx team excited to play against Saints Sunsparx. The ladies came out with clear communication and a strong defence turning the ball back over to the attacking end which was able to convert the passes into goals. Even with the opposition being taller than some of the girls the defence held their positions and never made it hard for the shooters to find a perfect spot to shoot from. The ladies showed great sportsmanship on and off the court and walked away with the win, the final score being 37-18. Player of the match was Marni.

- Stacey Schurmann & Sally Nichols

14-16s Cadet D Panthers

The Panthers played some great netball and pulled off an impressive win against St. Ursula’s, 38 to 8! I couldn’t be more proud of the team of girls we have and how they have grown this season. Some ‘pretty to watch’ plays made through our attacking end, and unstoppable defence in the opposing circle, paired with our movement throughout the centre court, made for a great game. The girls were getting in front of their players, creating turnovers, and at times effortlessly moving the ball up the court. The player of the match was Aleisha Stevens.

- Hannah Farrell

16-18s Cadet A Cheetahs

Cheetahs produced an exciting performance against Brothers Crocs - the most cohesive display to date, utilising sharp movements and intuitive combinations. Tia tormented the mobile shooter while Aiden had athletic influence on rejections, rebounds and intercepts. Mikealee also stepped effortlessly into the defensive circle highlighting her versatility and impact, influencing turnovers. Sally was also solid in defence, disrupting play with tips and intercepts, preventing Crocs from establishing rhythm. Linking and finding space through the centre was sublime. Chelsea, Ava, Mikealee and Keira took their game up a level, maneuvering the ball on a string. Some magic intercepts by Keira snuffed out turnovers to the Crocs, before they had begun. Clever movement by Aimee in the circle, kept her defender guessing and opening space. The combination between Keira, Aimee and our circle edge delivered terrific shooting opportunities. With Keira’s shooting on song, we took the win 29-7. The player of the match was Ava Schultz.

Div. 2 Cougars

Another cold showery afternoon for Round 8 of our season. Cougars came up against the top of the ladder Phoenix Heat. The girls started out slowly for the first quarter, as they were being careful of the shower of rain which had just passed. With the second quarter upon us we soon found our flow through the court with some great attacking plays that moved the ball into our shooters. Some great turnovers from our defensive end turned the game up for a good win. The Cougars defeated Phoenix Heat 23-30. Player of the match was Bianca Johnson. We have only one more game which will be Round 9 next Saturday for us before finals. Round 10 we have a bye. So please come show your support for the Div. 2 Cougars next Saturday at Nell E. Robinson Park!
