Windfall for Allora Showgrounds

Question - what happens to a Highway’s old road surface when it’s removed to make way for new bitumen?

In the case of the New England Highway project, which includes works to the south of Allora, the Department of Transport of Main Roads (TMR) offered the old bitumen to the Allora Show Society.

In return the TMR could use some of the land at the Showground to house their trucks and equipment while the Highway work is underway.

Naturally the President of the Show Society Carol Lyall was happy to accept the arrangement.

Not only did the TRM supply the material but they also laid and graded some of the existing roads around the Showground.

Users will be happy as there were areas that became very muddy and messy after rain.

The new surface will also be useful for the demolition derby and the driveway off South Street.

Thank you TMR and thanks to our local State Member James Lister for never giving up on the battle to upgrade the New England Highway.
