The crash occurred just before 5pm on a winding section of Toowoomba Karara Road between Wyreema and Cambooya, near the junction with Frank Road.

Queensland Police said a white Toyota Landcruiser travelling south crashed into a silver Toyota Aurion travelling north.

The driver of the Landcruiser, a 37-years-old Felton woman, and three passengers, two girls aged three and four and a boy aged six were transported to Toowoomba Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The woman sustained a head injury and soft tissue injuries and the children all had minor injuries.

The driver of the Aurion, a 57-years-old Wyreema woman, sustained significant life-threatening injuries and died at the scene.

Speaking last Thursday, Darling Downs Police Superintendent Douglas McDonald said it was very lucky the three children were not more seriously injured.

“Three children in a vehicle that’s rolled a number of times. They’re lucky to survive that terrible crash at high speed,” Superintendent McDonald said.

“At this stage we are continuing our investigations but we believe alcohol was a contributing factor.”

Forensic Crash Unit investigations remain ongoing.

Any witnesses or anyone with dashcam vision of the events leading up to the crash are urged to contact police.
