Woodworkers pack Gallery
People had to be turned away at the door as Toowoomba woodworking trio The Three Tenons opened their exhibition at Rosalie Gallery on Saturday.
The Gallery capacity was strained to its limit of 85 as visitors flocked to hear the story of how these amateur woodworkers, who had not previously worked together, had hand-crafted their masterpieces.
In total, over 120 people attended the event, Cr Trevor Manteufel commenting that he had only seen the Gallery this full once since his election in 2024.
Tenon Brian Cotter said he was surprised by the turnout.
“We’ve got a lot more people than we expected,” he said.
Mr Cotter says he is a self-taught woodworker “at the University of YouTube.”
“I don’t have any background or experience,” he said.
Mr Cotter estimated that to produce one chair, it took around 30-25 hours of work.
None of the exhibits used synthetic texturing.
“To me, there’s something special about the feel of timber,” he said.
All exhibits can be touched, and the chair not on white plinths can be sat on.
“Please have a seat,” Mr Cotter said.
“(The chair) will move a little bit, but it hugs you.”
After the talk, the three woodworkers shouted tea, coffee and snacks for all attendees at the Pioneer Arms Hotel.
The Three Tenons exhibition will be on display at Goombungee’s Rosalie Gallery from May 20 to June 21.
Rosalie Gallery is located at 89 Mocatta Street, Goombungee.
The gallery is open from 10.30am to 3.30pm Wednesday to Sunday and closed on Monday, Tuesday and public holidays.
Entry is free.
