Sitting high above the town, Wyreema’s elevated reservoir will soon be removed from its perch as it is no longer needed.
The Toowoomba Regional Council (TRC) reservoir, located at the Council compound on Newman Road, will be demolished beginning in July.
TRC Water Infrastructure Services Councillor Cr Bill Cahill told On Our Selection News Council will undertake works to increase the water service pressure provided to residents on the Wyreema network.
“The Wyreema elevated reservoir has been replaced by an alternative pressure boosting system and is no longer in service,” Cr Cahill said.
“The new pump station is in the compound near the reservoir,” Cr Cahill said.
“Preparatory works ahead of the demolition started in late May.
“The demolition of the elevated reservoir at 32 Newman Road, Wyreema will proceed from July, and will require the use of a large crane at the site.
“An exclusion zone will be in place on the site, but it will not affect surrounding residential properties.
“Please follow all signage instructions and keep clear of the work site during this period,” Cr Cahill said.
He said staged network pressure increases will occur at 8am on June 3, 10, and 17 to reach the new water service pressure.
“Council has advised residents about the planned changes in water pressure.
“Most modern properties are fitted with pressure-limiting devices at the boundary and will experience no noticeable change.
“The quality and reliability of water supplies will not be affected by this change.
“The changes are expected to remain within the targets prescribed in Council’s Customer Service Standards, which are detailed on Council’s website.
“Council appreciates residents’ patience and co-operation during the water network upgrade.”
