Xavier’s dream futsal tour of China

Harristown State High School student Xavier Robertson has just returned from a successful tour to China where he represented Australia in an under 13 Years Futsal Team against other Asian teams.

Xavier, a former Bunker’s Hill student, joined the Australian Futsal Association (AFA) team for its international tour to China, which played in two separate tournaments and after eight games remained undefeated.

Xavier’s mum Jordy said his team competed in the Jiangmen International Futsal Cup in Jiangmen which is one of the largest Chinese-based futsal tournaments held during the Jiangmen Futsal festival.

“We then travelled to Guangzhou city and competed against local teams,” she said.

Playing against teams from Hong Kong, Macao, China and Taiwan in the Jiangmen International Futsal Cup was obviously a chance of a lifetime and a great learning experience for a boy from the Downs.

Xavier’s Futsal journey began after playing in the National Australian Futsal Titles last September when in a proud moment his mum, Jordy, received a phone call advising her that Xavier had been selected to represent Australia for the China tour.

Joining Xavier on the tour was excited mum Jordy and proud grandfather Andrew.

The tour group was surprised to find the south of China, where the tournaments were played, was in the middle of a heat wave where 38 degree temperatures were experienced on most days.

What makes the performance of the Under 13 Years team even more amazing is the fact they only had one training session together and that was in China the day before the first game.

Another member of the team was fellow Bunker’s Hill State School alumni Parker Dearling.

Nothing beats travelling overseas to learn about other cultures and to be able to play a sport you enjoy at the same time is a dream come true for Xavier Robertson.

“Xavier is a very mature, kind hearted young man who loves playing sports and being outdoors,” Jordy said.
