Year-long Highway upgrades begin
The Queensland Department of Transport and Main Roads has begun delivering year-long safety upgrade roadworks along a 60-kilometre stretch of the Warrego Highway between Kingsthorpe and Dalby.
A Department of Transport and Main Roads (TMR) spokesperson said the project focuses on improving one of southern Queensland’s key regional transport routes, which has a history of crashes.
“The upgrades are part of the Safer Roads Sooner program, which aims to enhance safety at high-risk locations on regional roads through targeted, cost-effective measures that deliver significant safety benefits,” they said.
“Safety improvements being undertaken include road widening and batter flattening, improved line marking and signage, removal of roadside hazards, and installing dedicated turning lanes at Speed Road near Oakey.
“At Speed Road, works will be carried out near an abandoned railway line that once formed part of the Oakey–Cecil Plains route. While no longer operational, the structure holds local historical significance.”
Construction will take place until mid-2027, weather and construction conditions permitting.
Motorists are advised allow extra travel time while works are underway and follow all traffic management directions.
