Youth attends Downpour Camp

A lively band of Pittsworth’s Life Support Youth travelled to Hannaford, 60 kilometres south of Condamine, for Downpour Camp (DC) recently.

Life Support Youth experienced a weekend of ministry, worship, games, small groups, and of course lots of fun, while at DC.

The highlight of Saturday was the 1-2 hours of messy games.

This involved trying to complete an obstacle course while being covered in all sorts of messy substances such as molasses, slime and flour.

The afternoon ended with a free-for-all flour bomb fight.

No doubt there would have been a mad dash for the showers afterwards!

Guest speakers over the camp weekend were  Ps. Isaiah Simmons, head of Youth Alive Qld, and Ps. Alwyn Matt, founder of Downpour church.

Worship and praise sessions were followed by prayer.

Co-ordinator of Life Support Youth, Emily Hobbs, said she noticed that this year, it was not only the Pastors and Youth Leaders who were praying for people, but the kids were also praying for one another.

Small groups were formed, sometimes separate boys and girls groups, to answer questions, open up, and form new friendships.

One session included a youth panel who were asked anonymous questions that had been prepared earlier.

Their answers provided encouragement to the young people through the sharing of testimonies and life experiences.

Ms Hobbs also set the Life Support Youth a mission while they were at DC, named Operation Spread Jesus.

The group was tasked with hiding little Jesus figurines all around camp, and in people’s pockets, without them noticing.

“It was very fun and made a lot of people laugh when they stuck their hand in their pocket and pulled out a little Jesus figure,” Ms Hobbs said.

Many regional youth groups attend DC every year, including groups from Dalby, Roma, St. George and Kingaroy.

The Life Support Youth meet every Friday during school term at Pittsworth State School’s Bottle Tree Hall,  between 6.30pm and 9pm.

The night includes dinner, games, worship and discussion, which aims to encourage young people to build a relationship with each other, and with Jesus.
