McGovern Family reunion at East Greenmount on Sunday
It is 150 years since Bernard (Barney) McGovern arrived on the Darling Downs at the age of 21 and this weekend that anniversary will be celebrated by descendants of Bernard and Mary McGovern, who were prominent in the Greenmount district in the late 1800s and early 1900s.
Barney and Mary McGovern’s Commercial Hotel was constructed at Greenmount at the end of the 19th century, the building being moved to East Greenmount in 1936.
